Along with group and individual sessions, these assessments will assist in our treatment planning. TVF will utilize PCL5-PTSD, GAD-7 and the CES-D at the initial in-person interview and every 3 months to assess mental health recovery. Mental health care is the corner stone of our program. Our program offers a holistic and comprehensive approach to helping survivors heal from the complex trauma of trafficking. All of this must be done with compassion and grace and a willingness to sit with each residential intern in the mess and pain that is trauma recovery. Each treatment plan is tailored to the unique needs and goals of the individual residential intern and supports their engagement and personal ownership of their recovery. Our goal is to support each residential intern to understand their trauma then grow, heal and develop healthy coping skills as they gain autonomy and take ownership of their lives. The TVF program is a trauma-sensitive program with educated and trained staff applying best practices to support our residential interns. TVF recognizes that growth continues after graduation, therefore, we believe we have a responsibility to survivors that when they graduate our program, they can continue a path of growth and recovery. For most individuals it is a 2-7 year process working with a therapist and adjunctive supports to recovery from trauma. While recovery is unique to each person’s trauma history, personality and strengths. The typical program stay is between 12-36 months. This is an unacceptable barrier to care for the victims of trafficking in North Texas. There are no options for residential help in North Texas for minor girls. There were only 6 long-term beds for treatment of sex trafficking survivors in North Texas for adults until we added 8 more to the bed count in January 2020 with Phase I. Therefore, girls are "treated" for being high risk or runaway youth and shifted between youth shelters, foster homes or juvenile detention facilities, which do not provide the appropriate care and stability that is paramount for girls traumatized by this horrific crime. Although some local facilities are providing services for homeless youth, DFW continues to lack specialized long-term shelter for the exploited and trafficked. An estimated 400 underage girls are being sold for sex every night in Dallas. Texas ranks second in the nation for calls reporting sex trafficking.
